Programme en cours d’élaboration.
COURS D’ANGLAIS DE Mme ANNE MARTINA
The American Musical (II)
Performing Race and Gender
Mardi 15h30-17h. Sorbonne, salle E655
At the crossroads of film, performance, and cultural studies, the Spring term will focus on the representation of race and gender in American musicals. Racial issues will be tackled through close analyses of landmark productions (Show Boat), the ambiguous legacy of 19th-century minstrel shows and remnants of blackface practices in various Hollywood films. Particular attention will also be paid to the impact of performance (singing, dancing, acting) and star persona (those of Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, the Nicholas brothers and Carmen Miranda in particular), and the role of Broadway and Hollywood figures (Fred Astaire and Cole Porter mostly) in redefining race and gender relations on stage and screen.
Students will be offered to attend the general rehearsal of Kiss Me Kate at the Théâtre du Châtelet (to be confirmed).

COURS D’ANGLAIS DE Mme ELEONORE OBIS
An Introductory Course on Theatre in the British Isles (II):
Deconstructing theatre in contemporary British drama
Mercredi 14h30-16h. Amphi Cauchy
